About
About Ekroop
Curious about medicine, grounded in community, and interested in the questions that connect science, healthcare systems, and patient experience.
My Story
My interest in healthcare has developed through both academic study and direct experiences with patients, individuals in crisis, and members of my community.
As a Health Studies student at York University, I have had the opportunity to explore health through many different lenses, including health systems, social determinants of health, biomedical science, research, statistics, and emerging health technologies.
Outside the classroom, volunteering in healthcare and community settings has given me a deeper appreciation for the human side of medicine. Supporting patients, responding to individuals experiencing crisis, and participating in community outreach have reinforced the importance of communication, trust, empathy, and accessibility in healthcare.
These experiences have shaped my growing interest in medicine and research and continue to influence the questions I want to explore throughout my education.
Why Medicine
What draws me to medicine is the combination of scientific reasoning and human connection.
Medicine requires an understanding of biology, evidence, research, and disease, but it also requires the ability to listen carefully, communicate clearly, understand individual circumstances, and build trust.
I am particularly interested in becoming a physician who understands not only the biological mechanisms behind illness, but also the broader systems and social conditions that influence a person’s health.
For me, healthcare is most meaningful when scientific knowledge and compassionate care work together.

Beyond Academics
Outside of university and healthcare-related work, dance has been an important part of my life.
Years of training and performing have taught me discipline, consistency, teamwork, confidence, and the value of cultural connection. My work in administration and leadership has also strengthened my communication and organizational skills.
I value experiences that challenge me to grow in different ways, whether academically, professionally, creatively, or personally.
